Cody's Christmas

Cody made his way home just in time for the holidays and for his family's first Christmas as a family of five.

Cody and his sisters, Mackenzie and Abigail, were born prematurely at 27 weeks at Westchester Medical Center. Cody was in distress as a result of intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and was born with chronic lung disease typical of premature birth and required CPAP ventilation. He weighed a mere 1 lb 5 oz, and his sisters, Mackenzie and Abigail, were born at 2 lbs and 2 lbs 6 oz, respectively. Cody's respiratory distress of prematurity evolved into chronic lung disease also known as severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and required prolonged mechanical ventilation.

Cody's sisters were able to the leave the NICU at Westchester Medical Center the day before Father's Day and the 4th of July. Cody made his way home two weeks before Christmas after weaning off of mechanical ventilation and only requiring a low level of nasal cannula oxygen. He recently reached 13 pounds and grew stronger through intensive therapies that he received at Blythedale, including occupational, physical, and speech.

Now the family is ready to celebrate their first holiday at home as a family of five: Christmas.
