New York State Assemblywoman Sandy Galef (District 95) visited Blythedale Children's Hospital recently, as part of a busy summer of public policy outreach conducted by the Valhalla specialty hospital.

Assemblywoman Galef was elected to the NYS Assembly in 1992, and has been an advocate for legislative reform in Albany on issues pertaining to education, health, rights for the disabled, and more. She currently chairs the Real Property Tax Committee and serves as a member of the Corporations, Authorities, and Commissions Committee; the Election Law Committee; the Governmental Operations Committee; and the Health Committee.

Blythedale President & CEO Larry Levine and Chief Legal, Planning and Government Relations Officer Adam Herbst toured the Assemblywoman and three of her summer interns, visiting the Hospital’s 46-bed Infant and Toddler Unit, 10-bed Traumatic Brain Injury Unit, and 30-bed Child and Adolescent Unit. The group also toured the Mt. Pleasant Blythedale UFSD, the only public school of its kind in New York, and met with School Superintendent Emily Hersh to discuss the special academic and educational needs of Blythedale's patients. The Assemblywoman also met members of Blythedale's Assistive Technology team and saw firsthand how technology is helping a teen interact with her peers.

“I was so impressed by the work I saw being done at Blythedale, “ said New York State Assemblywoman Sandy Galef. “In times of need Blythedale offers the best medical care, attention and comfort to children and their families. This hospital is filled with miracle workers; they do so much for our children.”

"Assemblywoman Galef has a long history of advocacy on behalf of under-served populations," said Levine. " As we at Blythedale continue to tirelessly advocate for state and national legislation and public policy initiatives to protect medically fragile children and their families, we are so grateful to our local legislators who stand with us in supporting our effort."
