Blythedale Children’s Hospital in Valhalla, N.Y. is participating in the Brain Injury Association of America’s (BIAA) #ChangeYourMind campaign by educating the public about brain injuries among children and the needs of those impacted, plus their families.

Dr. Jay E. Selman, Blythedale’s Chief of Pediatric Neurology,  took to the national, state and local airwaves today to raise awareness for pediatric brain injuries. Three-time Emmy award-winning journalist and anchor/reporter for NBC News Radio, Sara Lee Kessler, interviewed Dr. Selman about this silent epidemic.

“Patients can look very, very normal, but yet they have significant cognitive and functional problems,” said Dr. Selman during the radio interview. “They may have difficulty organizing their lives, attending to school work, processing information, academic activites or exhibit a change in their social skills.”

Dr. Selman went on to explain that causes of brain injuries vary with a child’s age.  He cautioned that if parents notice a sudden change in their son or daughter’s personality and/or a drop in their grades, suspect a possible brain injury and seek medical attention.

The radio interview is available on NBC News Radio, iHeartRADIO, 24/7 News and 710 WOR (New York’s 710, WOR).
