Patient Shares Story of Miracle Recovery

For the third time this week, Blythedale Children’s Hospital was featured in a television news broadcast. On Thursday night, WNYW-Fox 5 NY (Channel 5) highlighted the inspirational story of 14-year-old Tasnim Rahman of Brooklyn, a Blythedale patient who overcame near fatal health complications. All the while, keeping her optimistic spirit and infectious smile.

Fox 5 NY reporter Lidia Curanaj chronicled Tasnim’s 17-month medical journey that spanned toxic shock syndrome, organ failure, gangrene and a double leg amputation to a successful recovery at Blythedale. While at the Hospital she underwent wound care, comprehensive rehabilitation, fitting for prosthetic legs and subsequent physical therapy. The Brooklyn teen now has her sights set on walking into her new school this fall.

Among the people interviewed and included in the Fox 5 NY story was Tasnim and her mother, as well as staff from Blythedale Children’s Hospital, including Dr. Ruth Alejandro, Attending Physiatrist, and Jenny Haseney, Physical Therapist.
