Congressman Faso Visits Blythedale

Last week, Congressman John Faso (R-NY-19), and his wife, Mary Frances, visited Blythedale Children's Hospital to tour the Hospital with President & CEO Larry Levine and visit our inpatient units, therapy areas, and on-site school.

During the tour they had the opportunity to speak with clinicians about the Hospital's unique programming, and meet with parents from the Congressman's home district. These parents shared their individual stories about Blythedale, and expressed the importance of Medicaid.

"We are grateful to Congressman Faso for taking the time to come see firsthand how critically important our programs are to medically fragile children," said Levine.

Melanie, a concerned parent, speaks with the Congressman about the vital need for Medicaid funding for families like hers.

"Taking care of CHIP was great, but 33 million kids are covered by Medicaid (as compared to CHIP, which covers nine million children). Kids get caught in the so-called Medicaid reform debate, but the fact is they account for almost half of all Medicaid beneficiaries yet represent only 20% of the expense. Spending time here at Blythedale - where 73% of our patients are covered by Medicaid - illustrates the urgency of this issue."
