On Friday, December 15, Scott Shannon and his crew from the Shannon in the Morning Show on CBS-FM 101.1 broadcast their final show of 2017 live from Blythedale. The star-studded program included live performances by Matchbox Twenty lead singer Rob Thomas (back for his 18th consecutive appearance), two-time Grammy winner Jason Mraz, Mark Rivera (Billy Joel’s longtime sax man), America’s Got Talent finalist Sal “The Voice” Valentinetti, American Idol finalist Jax, A Cappella group Six13, and Tim McLoone with Holiday Express. Plus, Santa Claus & Mrs. Claus stopped by with some gifts and other goodies for patients, families, staff and volunteers.

“This is always everyone’s favorite day of the year at Blythedale,” said Christina Caras, Director of Special Events. “We are so grateful to Scott Shannon, CBS-FM, Rob Thomas, Jason Mraz and all of the artists who gave so generously of their time and talents to make the holidays special for the children and their families here at the hospital.”

Amid the festivities, some of the performers stepped backstage and visited patients who were unable to attend the show - treating several enthusiastic young fans to acoustic performances at their bedside. The performers were even treated to an impromptu ukulele serenade by a former Blythedale patient.

Capping off the annual holiday show, Scott Shannon performed his annual rendition of Blue Christmas to a delighted crowd.

The event, a fundraiser for Blythedale, brought in nearly $83,000 to support the Hospital’s Graduate Medical Education Program.
