Blythedale Children's Hospital Department of Rehabilitation Medicine is proud to present: Role of Dynamic Surfaces for Promoting Fun & Functional Shifts in Children with Neuromuscular Challenges with Jane Styer-Acevedo, PT, DPT, C/NDT.
This intermediate level course will enhance critical thinking skills for Speech and Language Pathologists and Occupational and Physical Therapists and their assistants who treat children with a variety of neuromuscular challenges. Participants will critically assess children through observation and analysis of instructor demonstrations to problem solve the causative impairments interfering with achievement of identified functional goals. Utilizing the International Classification of Function (ICF), task analysis, and group discussion, you will have the opportunity to design an efficient and effective treatment session towards functional goal that leads to participation in the child’s
daily routine. The framework for the contemporary NDT practice model will be presented. Experiential movement labs will be emphasized to enhance the participants’ facilitation and treatment skills with other class participants using dynamic surfaces such as a variety of balls, bolsters, mats, wedges, dyna-disks, etc. to facilitate functional skill acquisition. Movement/Simulation labs will support experiential learning.
Blythedale Children’s Hospital is recognized by NYS ED as an approved provider for continuing education in the areas of Physical Therapy, and we have applied for 33 contact hours.
