Stuart Dix, along with Michael Brown, co-founded the Blythedale Invitational Golf Outing in 2013. Both men were longtime golfers who came to know about Blythedale and took a personal interest in helping our patients. In 2013, the outing began as a way to bring together people who love to golf and introduce them to the wonderful work being done at Blythedale Children’s Hospital. In 2014, the outing grew to a full-scale event with 80 golfers, resulting in more than $200,000 raised for the children at Blythedale.
Stuart, father of Blythedale Trustee Farrel Starker, died unexpectedly in 2014 and his family and friends have carried on the wonderful tradition he started by continuing the outing in his honor - hosting the first Stuart H. Dix Memorial Golf Outing in 2015. Since its inception, this incredible event (now in its 8th year) has raised more than $2.5 million for programs and services benefiting the children at Blythedale.
"Stuart was a wonderful advocate for the work that we do to help medically fragile children,” said Blythedale President & CEO Larry Levine. "His impact on the Hospital was felt in no small way and we are so grateful for the unwavering support of Michael Brown, Farrel and Steven Starker, Judy Dix and all of their friends and family.”
This year's event features morning and afternoon golf - as well as a new afternoon golf clinic - to accommodate a larger number of participants.
