CPR Classes

*** NEW - Blythedale is now an American Heart Association Training Center for Pediatric Advanced Life Support

Basic Life Support/ Pediatric Advanced Life Support Classes

Blythedale Children’s Hospital is proud to be a certified Training Center for the American Heart Association (AHA) in both Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS). All of our PALS and BLS instructors are AHA trained and our program is run in accordance with AHA rules and guidelines. Blythedale is committed to bringing its CPR program into the community, and teaching the skills of PALS and BLS to a broad audience.

To register for a class, please contact Suzanne Bartlett at (914) 592-7138, ext 353. You can also send email queries to BCHHeart2heart@aol.com

BLS Courses

All BLS courses are video-based and are watched then practiced. There is a lot of hands-on practice throughout the course. Courses are based on the Chain of Survival. The Pediatric (Infant/Child) Chain of Survival is

  1. Prevention
  2. CPR
  3. Activation of 911
  4. Early advanced care.

Courses cover the first three links. The adult chain of survival is

  1. Activation of 911
  2. Early CPR
  3. Early defibrillation
  4. Early advanced care.

Depending on which course is taken, the first first two or three links are covered. The more people trained in CPR, the stronger the chain of survival becomes.

What We Offer at Blythedale
At Blythedale we offer all BLS courses. We offer Pediatric CPR the 2nd Saturday of each month. We also offer Healthcare Provider and Heartsaver Courses monthly. Two new courses have been introduced: Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid and Family and Friends Pediatric First Aid.

Blythedale was the first Training Center to become involved in “CPR in the Schools” in Westchester. This course is taught as part of the curriculum in middle school and/or high school. A student can receive certification in both Pediatric and Adult CPR, choking and AED training. We are currently working with nine schools and are training another school in the fall. To date, we have trained more than 5,000 students. Studies have shown that students who take CPR in school are more likely to continue to take update classes throughout their lifetime.

We have many other ideas to spread this knowledge throughout the community that will be forthcoming. Blythedale is committed to strengthening the Chain of Survival in our community.
