Peter On the Move Again
In August of this last year, a previously healthy and very active five-year-old Peter was diagnosed with a tumor on his spine. A mere week after his diagnosis, and following complicated surgery,  Peter was admitted to Blythedale's Yellow Unit for comprehensive inpatient therapy. His family's greatest concern, given the precarious location of the tumor, was the uncertainty over his ability to ever walk again. A seizure had left Peter with paralysis of his right leg. Upon admission, Peter began an aggressive treatment regimen, comprised of daily physical, occupational, biking, aquatic and standing therapy. Peter progressed quickly, spending half a day proudly walking with a rolling walker,  and utilizing a customized wheelchair for the second half. He soon relearned how to navigate a flight of stairs, and greatly enjoyed being on-the-go again. After a few months in Blythedale's Day Hospital program, Peter returned to his home school district, and got back to all his regular activities. Peter's wonderfully supportive family were active participants in his care, and cheered his progress every step of the way. While this charming little boy is missed by all at Blythedale, he brings a smile to everyone he sees during his visits back!
