Blythedale Children's Hospital

Department of Rehabilitation Medicine

Rehabilitation Medicine focuses on the management of neuromuscular diseases affecting children. Many of these children have complex disabilities secondary to injury or illness, and functional assessment and coordinated treatment of the sequelae are necessary for optimal outcome. Diagnoses treated include: Developmental Delay, Cerebral Palsy, Spinal Cord Injury, Traumatic Brain Injury, Meningomyelocele, and Polyneuropathy as well as other conditions that result in a spectrum of disabilities. Physiatrists integrate the medical and therapeutic aspects of care as well as specialized diagnostic assessments (e.g., EMG), and generate orthotic/prosthetic and other durable medical equipment prescriptions.
