Speech Pathology and Audiology
Speech-language pathologists at Blythedale assess, diagnose, treat, and help to prevent problems involving speech, language, feeding, and swallowing. Communication problems can be present at birth or develop after an injury or illness. For children with little or no speech capability, speech-language pathologists may select augmentative or alternative communication methods, including automated devices and sign language, and teach their use. The Speech Pathology and Audiology Department provides services to inpatients, Day Hospital patients and outpatients, as well as the community at large. Our audiologists determine appropriate patient treatment by combining a complete history with a variety of specialized auditory and vestibular assessments. The Audiology Department provides services to inpatients, Day Hospital patients and outpatients. Services include assessment of hearing and central auditory processing using brainstem auditory evoked responses, otoacoustic emissions and sound field testing. The department of Audiology also selects and fits hearing aids and assistive listening devices.
