NursingAt Blythedale Children’s Hospital, our professional nurses are skilled in pediatric specialty care and serve as dedicated advocates for the children and parents they serve. Integral members of the health care team, inpatient nurses provide compassionate and meticulous nursing care 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as well as coordinate the many services and therapies provided to the children everyday. Expert nursing care is also provided in our Day Hospital and Outpatient Center for children who live at home but come to Blythedale for medical care, school and continued therapy. Our nursing service is represented by registered nurses specialized in pediatrics, as well as advanced practice nurses and nurse educators. Assisting these highly trained nurses are licensed practical nurses and certified nursing assistants. Blythedale nurses all have specialized training in caring for ventilator dependent children as well as children with complex medical and rehabilitation needs. Blythedale nurses act as preceptors and role models for student nurses in Schools of Nursing throughout the greater metropolitan region. Pediatric nursing specializing in rehabilitation is a practice committed to improving the quality of life for children and adolescents with disabilities, as well as for their families. The goal of the rehabilitation process is for children, regardless of their diagnosis, to function at their maximum potential and become contributing members of both their families and society. Nursing plays a major role in achieving this goal by using a holistic approach to care. The physical, emotional, social, cultural, educational, developmental, and spiritual dimensions are considered for each child and family. The unique qualities of each child are strengthened and cherished in this environment. Pediatric nursing at Bythedale is both specialized and diverse.
