Brain Injury Program(Traumatic & Other Acquired) For years, Blythedale has been recognized as a national leader in the rehabilitation of children recovering from brain injuries, and the Hospital’s brain injury program continues to advance as major medical centers discharge patients to Blythedale earlier in the recovery process. Blythedale's Brain Injury Program offers comprehensive care to patients who have undergone traumatic brain injury as well as acute brain injury from stroke, infection, hemorrhage and central nervous system lesions. This includes therapeutic stimulation in an appropriate environment, cognitive retraining, physical, occupational, speech and feeding therapy, pain and seizure control, ventilator and tracheostomy care, skin care, nutritional and feeding support, maintenance and improvement of range of motion, and management of spasticity and abnormal movement. Members of our expertly trained team of pediatric sub-specialists, nurses, therapists, and other clinicians trained in the management of TBI, are on-site 24 hours a day, overseeing the highly complex medical care of these children, many of whom are still comatose when they are admitted to Blythedale. The program helps promote independence and self-care. Additional therapies include psychopharmacology and behavior management, and education and counseling to caregivers and families.
