Blythedale Children's Hospital was once again nominated to take part in the global trading firm BTIG's 12th Annual Commissions for Charity Day, held this week in New York City. The BTIG Commissions for Charity Day is a special event in which the firm donates one day's net commission profits to charities. BTIG's clients designate the charities to receive commissions. Last year, Blythedale received a $75,000 donation as a result of trades made on our behalf by seven firms.
This year, Blythedale President & CEO Larry Levine and Chief Development Officer Jane MacDonald joined Blythedale Trustees Darren Fogel, Alan Gerstein and Farrel Starker, and Farrel's husband and BTIG Co-Founder Steven Starker at the star-studded event. Celebrity "guest-traders", including New York Yankees Manager Joe Girardi, and former and current players Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, CC Sabathia, and Mark Teixeira, as well as New York Giants Quarterback Eli Manning, NBA great Shaquille O'Neal, NY Mets David Wright and Matt Harvey, and supermodel Petra Nemcova, helped raise money for a variety of children's charities, including Blythedale.
"All of us at Blythedale are incredibly grateful to BTIG, and Steve and Farrel, to have the opportunity to participate in this exciting and unique event," said Blythedale President & CEO Larry Levine. "We are truly honored to again be named as one of the beneficiaries of this extraordinary philanthropic effort."
Also on hand enjoying the festivities were former patients Nicole Graham and Peter Steinberg, and current patient Mathew Miller, along with their families. Dozens of celebrities stopped to visit with Blythedale's kids, graciously signing autographs and posing for pictures.
Since first hosting Commissions for Charity Day in 2003, BTIG has raised more than $30 million and has donated those proceeds to over 250 nonprofit organizations.
