Blythedale Children's Hospital was pleased to welcome Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) for a visit this week. The Congressman toured Blythedale and learned about the Hospital's specialty programs and
services. He also met several patients, as well as their parents and physicians, and learned of the unique circumstances that led to their admission to Blythedale.
Congressman Maloney also discussed the Hospital's public policy priorities with members of Blythedale's senior management team. Topics included: the critical importance of protecting Medicaid funding; the enforcement of the federal EPSDT mandate that insures that children's unique health care needs - including all medically necessary diagnostic and treatment services - are covered under Medicaid managed care; the continued strong funding for Children's Hospitals Graduate Medical Education; and the maintenance of federal DSH (Disproportionate Share Hospital) funding, which is used to mitigate uncompensated care losses, offset Medicaid shortfalls, support safety net providers and ensure access to necessary services
for Medicaid and uninsured populations.
Congressman Maloney's district includes Putnam and Orange counties, as well as parts of northeastern Westchester and southwestern Dutchess counties. In his first term in Congress, Congressman Maloney has shown a great interest in children's health issues and is a member of the Congressional Children's Health Caucus.
