Education & Training

Education is a pillar of Blythedale’s mission to improve the health and quality of life of children. In addition to educating our patients’ parents and families about their child’s care and serving as a valuable community health resource, we train the next generation of pediatric specialists in the care of medically complex cases and advance the best in care practices.

More than 100 regional colleges and universities send aspiring medical and clinical professionals to Blythedale for training in competitive rotations and residencies. The Hospital’s level of medical excellence and unique mission creates unparalled opportunities for medical residents, nurses, therapists and other clinicians.

Medical Residency Program
Blythedale’s patient population often provides residents with opportunities to interact with children they will never forget. Because many of our patients have rare and complex conditions, residents gain valuable diagnostic experience that will become an asset to their professional practice—no matter what pediatric subspecialty they persue. In addition, Blythedale’s interdisciplinary collaborative approach provides an invaluable education to residents.

Above all else, interacting with Blythedale’s patients and their families instills in resident physicians a deep sense of empathy and particular bedside manner in communication with those affected by serious and chronic illness and injury.

Medical Education Rotations
Graduate medical education rotations at Blythedale offer pediatricians an opportunity to train in our pediatric specialty hospital committed to child-centered, family-focused care. Approximately 30 residents each year spend a portion of their residencies at Blythedale.

We attract graduates from leading American and international medical schools for competitive residency rotations in Pediatric Physical Medicine (Physiatry) and Rehabilitation, Pediatric Orthopedics, Pediatric Pulmonology and Child Psychiatry. A residency in Pediatrics is in planning.

In addition, we offer fellowship opportunities to qualified physicians in Pediatric Pulmonology, Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Child Psychiatry. A Fellowship in Child Neurology is in the planning process.
