Building Blythedale

Creating a Stronger Blythedale for Future Generations

There has never been a more exciting time to be part of the Blythedale community.

Blythedale has always been at the forefront of innovative and specialized pediatric medicine, developing programs for the care of the whole-child and addressing emerging medical concerns Together with a growing endowment, our Capital Campaign – an unprecedented two-phase building and renovation program – will ensure that future generations of children and their families receive the best start to their own individual journeys of healing. The Capital Campaign will allow Blythedale to address the dramatic changes in pediatric diagnoses over the past several decades and provide the most advanced clinical and rehabilitative care to medically fragile children. in the New York metropolitan region.

The first phase of our Capital Campaign concluded with the opening of a 56,000 square foot replacement inpatient hospital building in December 2011. The $65.3 million modernization project is custom-designed for the highly specific needs of medically fragile children, and enhances our services with larger inpatient rooms, new technology such as wireless monitoring systems, and specialized services such as the dedicated Traumatic Brain Injury Unit. Designed by MorrisSwitzer~Environments for Health, an architectural firm that specializes in healthcare facilities, the new building creates a warm, inviting and playful environment using simple shapes and a whimsical color palette on both the exterior and interior. Lend Lease is the construction manager for the project.

This project is far from over. Phase II of our monumental Capital Campaign will advance our vision for a new Blythedale through a renovation of the existing building to accommodate an expanded Day Hospital and Early Childhood Center, a new Center for Assistive Technology and a new Center for Speech and Audiology. Every detail of this renovation has been planned with great sensitivity to the unique and specialized needs of our patients. Phase II of Blythedale’s transformation begins in January 2012 and will conclude in 2013 at a cost of $15 million - with no disruption in service to patients and their families.
We have been fortunate to count on an extraordinary corps of donors to help us reach our goals throughout this monumental time in Blythedale's history. In order to bring our vision to reality, we need your support - now more than ever - as we continue to build on our philanthropic legacy. Join us as we create a new Blythedale for the 21st century and help future generations of children to embark on their own journeys to claim their futures.
